Deputies thus called on the European Commission (EC) to reevaluate its decision on the unfrozen EU fund, and declared this step incomprehensible.

At the end of the plenary debate, the MEPs (399 votes for, 117 against and 28 abstained) adopted a resolution, condemning the so-called shortcomings related to the judiciary, the fight against corruption and money laundering, freedom of speech, fundamental rights, a functioning civil society or the overall structure of the single market .

Looking at the latest fallout from the permanent, systemic and slight comparison of EU values, the parliament condemned the adoption of the March law on sovereignty, which, according to the ruling Fidesz party, will prevent improper interference by foreign persons or groups in national politics.

The norm established the so-called ad for the protection of sovereignty, which can detect and evaluate the risks of political agreements. According to the MEPs, he has extended the powers of the police and created a system of supervision and sanctions that violates democracy … and a number of EU regulations. The law equals punishment for illegal foreign financing of parties or groups running in elections and prison terms.

Therefore, in the resolution, the MPs ask the European Commission to apply to the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg for a preliminary injunction to suspend the validity of the law, or, according to them, affect the principle of free and fair elections.

MEPs don’t want to unfreeze funds for Hungary, the Commission has a different plan

The MEPs once again condemned the commission’s decision to unblock ten billion frozen euros (no more than 250 billion crowns) from EU support funds, as well as the persistent criticism of the comparative principle of the first state in Hungary. The EC released the pension on the eve of the December summit, at which the representatives of the EU discussed the external EU budget and the start of accession talks with Ukraine and other countries.

Because of this, the European Parliament sued the EC at the Court of Justice of the EU. In the daily resolution, the MEPs once again revealed that, according to them, the EC acted in an incomprehensible manner.

In a resolution, the European Parliament raised concerns that the Hungarian government will not be able to honorably fulfill its duties as part of the presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2024. In short, the MEPs called for the creation of a comprehensive mechanism to protect the values of the European Union.
