Hamas released a video of a hostage, he does not have a hand

--

In the recording, which Israeli media described as propaganda, he addressed Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the government: “When you sit and eat a holiday meal with your families, think of us hostages who are still in an underground hell without water, without food, without sun, without the health care I have needed for so long… Do what is expected of you and get us home now. Every day we’re here you ignore us more and more, you ignore our blood.”

Hamas released video of Israeli-American hostage Goldberg-Polin

He asked the family to stay strong and keep fighting until each of the hostages comes home: “I know you’re doing everything to get me home as soon as possible.” His parents, Rachel Goldberg and Jon Polin, are campaigning for his release his son and other hostages.

A group of families of hostages and missing people said in a statement: “Hersh’s cry is the collective cry of all hostages. Their time is running out fast. We can’t afford to waste any more time. The hostages must be the highest priority.’

Army spokesman Daniel Hagari said the video was an “urgent urgent call to action”. He reiterated that the military would “leave no stone unturned in the search for the hostages.”

The video sparked protests

After the video was released, hundreds of people protested near Netanyahu’s house with pictures of Goldberg-Polin and other hostages.

The video is undated, but Goldberg-Polin mentions 200 days in captivity. The war in the Gaza Strip entered its 200th day on Tuesday. The video was supposed to have been handed to Hamas on Monday in Qatar, where negotiations are underway to hand it over to the Americans, before being posted on a Telegram account. The publication was timed to coincide with the week of Pesach. After the recording was released, the Goldberg-Polin family agreed to its continued distribution and use.

Hersh tried to save people with a friend

Israel’s intelligence service confirmed to the paper that Goldberg-Polin was alive just before the recording was published. She added that shortly after his abduction into the Gaza Strip, he underwent surgery because a grenade tore off his left arm.

After the attack on the music festival grounds with two dozen other listeners, Mingunit ran to the field shelter. The terrorists then started shooting and throwing hand grenades at him. Hersh’s friend Aner Šapira managed to throw seven grenades out of cover before he was killed by the eighth. He thus saved the people in the shelter. Goldberg-Polin tried to throw another grenade himself, but he didn’t do it in time and the explosion almost took off his arm, which was then amputated below the elbow. He remained among the seven people who survived in the shelter, mostly because they were lying under the bodies of the dead. He apparently applied the tourniquet himself to stop the bleeding.

Footage of the hostage loading shows his hand missing.

Golberg-Polin complained that the hostages were treated shamefully by the government, the army did not rescue them. He pointed out that they had been in captivity for 200 days and “every effort of the army had failed”, only “the air force killed 70 people like him in the bombing”.

He called on the government to resign: “The time has come for you to hand over the keys to the cabinet, leave the ministries and go home.”

His words about the 70 hostages killed indicate that there are only a few dozen alive. So far, it has been speculated that about three dozen of them died in captivity. This may be why Hamas wants to exchange far fewer hostages in a possible ceasefire.

Israel wants a list of hostages for a concession in Gaza. But Hamas apparently doesn’t have many of them alive anymore
