We thwarted an attack on Minsk from the territory of Lithuania, Belarus claims. Nonsense, it sounds from the Baltics

--

“The KGB, in cooperation with colleagues from other branches, recently carried out a number of acute security measures, which made it possible to prevent attacks by combat drones from the territory of Lithuania on objects in Minsk and its suburbs. We cannot disclose the details to the public yet,” Tertel told Belarusian officials without providing evidence for his claims.

He also added that “radicals” in Lithuania and Poland are said to be producing drones intended for attacks on Belarus.

The reaction of the Baltic state was brief. “This is nonsense. I can’t find another word for it,” countered Lithuanian army spokesman Gintautas Ciunis, according to the AP agency.

Lukashenko expects incidents on the border with Ukraine

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko also pointed beyond the borders with suspicion when he said on Thursday that the Belarusian opposition plans to take control of the region around the city of Kobryn in western Belarus and then ask the troops of the North Atlantic Alliance to come to their aid.

“They would at least want to, I don’t know why they chose it, but the Kobryn district, it’s talked about a lot. But it’s not even at the border. There are districts closer to the borders. But no, they chose the Kobryn district. They want to seize it, ask NATO to send troops,” Lukashenko was quoted as saying by the Russian newspaper Kommersant.

Lukashenko also mentioned Ukraine. According to him, the country, which has been resisting a large-scale military invasion for more than two years and is struggling with a lack of soldiers at the front, has deployed up to 120,000 army personnel near the border with Belarus. The Belarusian leader noted that the probability of incidents on the common border is “quite high”. At the same time, he did not mention the fact that Russian troops were attacking Ukraine from the territory of Belarus.
