Authorities across Southeast Asia have issued warnings of a deadly heat wave.

Philippine authorities have announced the closure of schools there after reports of high blood pressure, dizziness and fainting among teachers and students. Temperatures in the country are forecast to reach 37 degrees in the next few days, with the temperature rising to a record 45 degrees. This is reported by the Reuters agency.

Torrential heat is also plaguing Thailand. Temperatures in excess of 40 degrees are expected in the capital Bangkok and some other parts of the country. According to the local Ministry of Health, 30 people have died of heatstroke in the last month across the country.

High temperatures are not avoided even in Malaysia, Singapore or Vietnam. The Vietnam Meteorological Agency warned of the possibility of forest fires. According to Reuters, residents there seek refuge from the heat in, among other things, air-conditioned shopping centers. The high temperatures also put a strain on the local power grid, with consumers urged not to overload their home air conditioners.

Indonesia, the most populous country in Southeast Asia, is also reporting heat problems. High temperatures are responsible for the rise in the number of dengue cases there, which have more than doubled in the past year. 35,000 people fell ill with this mosquito-borne disease this year, compared to 15,000 cases a year ago.
