Former US President Donald Trump was fined $9,000 (CZK 211,000) on Tuesday for repeatedly violating an order not to comment on the process. That barred him from speaking publicly to witnesses, jurors and others connected to his trial, which involves payments to the porn actress for confidentiality. Trump has violated the order a total of ten times.

The fine was decided at the beginning of the second week of witness statements. The indictment against Trump is related to events from his first campaign in 2016, when his lawyer paid $130,000 (over three million crowns) to porn actress Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels, in an attempt to cover up her claims that she had about a decade earlier affair with Trump. According to prosecutors, Trump falsified dozens of financial records when he returned the money to his lawyer after he was elected.

The indictment also claims that he could have covered up violations of campaign finance rules and presents everything as part of a broader effort to influence public opinion before the election. Trump, who is now running for the White House once again, denies the allegations.

Trump was joined in the courtroom today by his son Eric. The media noted that this is the first time that a family member has accompanied the ex-president to a court hearing in a criminal case.
