“Definitely yes. Is it substantiated that the Earth is round?” he responded to a question posed by Machala in an interview for the public Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS). “Have you been in space? You weren’t, neither was I, I don’t know,” he added.
Machala has already spread conspiracies in the past, claiming that the Illuminati is preparing World War III and that the only one who can save the world is Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In the past, Machala worked at the Ministry of Education when SNS nominee Martina Lubyová headed the department. At the time, SNS Chairman Andrej Danko described Machala as a competent and educated person. However, he did not last long at the Ministry of Education. He got another chance after last year’s parliamentary elections from the Minister of Culture Martina Šimkovičová (SNS nominee).
The government coalition led by Prime Minister Robert Fice (Smér) wants to abolish RTVS and replace this public institution with Slovak Television and Radio (STVR), which would automatically replace the current director general.
One of the reasons for canceling RTVS is the alleged “one-way” of informing citizens by the public media. The editor of RTVS therefore asked Machala whether people who have a different opinion that the Earth is round and claim that the Earth is flat should also be given space in STVR. It was to this question that Machala answered in the affirmative.
