The Russians are a bit further. Zelenskyy “messages” us again

--

It is no secret that there has been considerable tension between one of the richest people on Earth and the owner of the social network X, Elon Musk, and the Ukrainians for at least the last year. Among other things, Musk announced to the world that it would not be best for him to provide assistance with his Starlink satellite network just like that. And he didn’t even want to activate Starlink on the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, which has been occupied by Russia for 10 years. He did not want to involve his companies directly in the war.

Server Kyiv Pot pointed outthat 20,000 Starlink satellites are being paid to Ukraine by the Poles.

“Today we have more than 20,000 Starlink devices, the operation of which is financed by Poland,” Polish Minister for Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski said during a visit to Kyiv, as quoted by the PAP news agency. The Kyiv Post server took over the information.

Gawkowski emphasized that Starlink not only supports the Ukrainian military, but also provides vital information to hospitals.

Washingtonian The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) announced, that the Russians continue to advance in the area near Avdijivka, specifically northwest of the city. Russian pro-war bloggers claim that Russian forces were also advancing westward in fields east of Novopokrovsk (northwest of Avdijivka and southwest of Ocheretyne).

Russian President Vladimir Purin, who has effectively ruled Russia since 2000, took up his next term in the Kremlin. He indicated that Russia must win the war in Ukraine and pointed out that if this is to succeed, Russians must be united. He emphasized that internal upheavals would not benefit Russia, which, in his opinion, is also shown by Russia’s historical experience.

“Russian ultranationalists hailed the start of Putin’s fifth term as a historic event and explicitly endorsed the autocratic tradition in which Putin is placing himself, with one hailing him as ’emperor,’ the formal title of Russian tsars since Peter the Great,” the Washington Institute noted for the Study of War (ISW).

At the same time, the Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko, who depends on cooperation with the current ruler of the Kremlin, repeated again that he would like to avoid the involvement of Belarus in the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) reported on May 7 that it had uncovered a network of Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) agents plotting to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other high-ranking Ukrainian intelligence and military officials. Among those detained are two colonels of the State Guard, allegedly recruited by Russia before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, i.e. before February 2022. They face life imprisonment for high treason.

The Ukrainian side is now repeatedly warning that the Russians are continuing to prepare for a major summer offensive and that the defending country still does not have enough resources to defend itself effectively.

“We need air defense and other defense assistance, not to close our eyes and long discussions,” Zelenskyy wrote on the Telegram social network. Kyiv Independent drew attention to his statement. He spoke at a time when more Russian missiles were falling on Ukraine, destroying power plants and other energy infrastructure facilities. On the night of May 8, the Russians reportedly fired ballistic missiles and drones at Ukraine.
