New editions of compact SUVs from the multinational Stellantis concern received no less the new STLA Medium platform, which is designed to efficiently manage both combustion and electric engines. As in the case of the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, the German cousin Opel Grandland is presented, among other things, with a locally emission-free drive.

The automaker from Rüsselsheim has not yet specified its details. We do know, however, that the electric variant will receive a traction battery with a capacity of up to 98 kWh, thanks to which the Opel can theoretically cover a distance of up to around 700 kilometers on a single charge. However, if we stick to the aforementioned Peugeot e-3008, the electric grandland will also get a smaller battery with 73 kilowatt hours and a version with one electric motor with 157 kW at the front and a four-wheel drive with an electric unit on each axle with a system output of 240 kilowatts.

Driving impressions with the Peugeot e-3008: Radically different

Along with this, we can also expect a three-cylinder 1.2 with a mild-hybrid drive with an output of 100 kilowatts and a new plug-in hybrid that should travel up to 85 kilometers on electricity on a single charge.

Compared to its predecessor, the Opel Grandland is finally “grand” or big. Between generations, the length has grown by a significant 173 millimeters to 4,650 mm, it is 19 mm higher (1,660 millimeters) and 64 millimeters wider (1,905 mm). The wheelbase has been extended from the current 2675 mm to 2784 millimeters, so there will be significantly more space in the cabin in all directions. The rear backrests divided in a ratio of 40 : 20 : 40 and the luggage compartment with a maximum transport capacity of 1641 liters will please you.

The new Opel Frontera is official: The successor to the Crossland reveals both the design and the cabin

The design of the new Opel Grandland accentuates the current stylistic language of the German automaker, according to which the Frontera model, which was presented only two weeks ago, was also designed. The novelty takes part of its design elements from last year’s Opel Experimental concept. This includes, for example, a 3D Vizor front mask with an illuminated brand logo and a permanently illuminated Opel inscription on the rear.

Another highlight, which is traditionally relied on by Opel, are the front headlights. The Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD headlight has 25,600 segments in each headlight (there are 51,200 in total). The electronics control the lighting of each of them so that the light beam is as bright as possible and at the same time the car does not dazzle other road users. Matrix technology can also create different light patterns that are displayed when the car is unlocked and locked.

A classic that we have become accustomed to in Opels are ergonomic seats with AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken or Campaign for a Healthy Back) certification. The novelty is a wide-angle central display with a diagonal of 16 inches, which is followed by a screen in front of the driver with on-board instruments. Inside, we will also see storage boxes with a total volume of 35 liters.

On the Grandland SUV, Opel boasts suspension dampers with frequency-selective damping technology, which creates a second hydraulic circuit in the damper chamber to mechanically adjust the damping force in relation to frequency. The suspension therefore adapts better to the surface on which the car is currently driving thanks to different characteristics.

Of course, there is an entire army of driving and safety assistants that are integrated into the Intelli-Drive 2.0 package. It is worth mentioning, for example, the partially autonomous lane change, which can be handled by the electronics itself. There is also a panoramic parking system and a permanent Internet connection, which means that there is no need to visit the service center for software updates.
