The Japanese sibling of the Renault Captur got a new face as part of the modernization. The composition of the engines remains the same, only there is no talk of a plug-in hybrid, just like with Renault.

Thanks to alliance membership with Renault and Nissan, Mitsubishi has access to shared technologies. Thanks to this, the Japanese automaker with three diamonds in its emblem revived the small hatchback Colt and introduced a new generation of its successful ASX model. Instead of developing unique cars, she reached into French warehouses and chose two extremely successful Renaults as a basis.

The Colt thus corresponds to the very successful Renault Clio, while the ASX bet on the proven concept of the Captur crossover, which has sold over two million copies within two generations since 2013. And while the French original underwent a facelift three weeks ago, the Japanese sibling is coming up now.

There are surprisingly few changes compared to the Renault Captur. Both cars differ primarily in a different logo on the radiator grille, the ASX also received a slightly redesigned front bumper and other small details. Inside, there are perhaps even fewer differences, which, however, does not matter at all from the point of view of the multimedia system.

The Mitsubishi ASX has adopted the excellent OpenR Link interface from Renault with a 10.4-inch display, which is based on Android Automotive 12. Owners will thus be able to enjoy integrated applications from Google. Google Maps, Google Play Store and Google Assistant will be available.

While you have a choice of four engines for the current model, the press release does not yet mention a plug-in hybrid drive for the new model. It was the same with the presentation of the rejuvenated Renault Captur. So far, we only have two pure gasoline engines confirmed, in the form of a three-cylinder 1.0 MPI-T with 67 kilowatts with a six-speed manual transmission and an excellent four-cylinder with a volume of 1.3 liters with 103 or 116 kilowatts, which can also be found under the hoods of compact Mercedes.

So far, the banner of significantly more electrified drives is carried only by the classic hybrid, which Renault has “beautified” with an automatic Multi-Mode transmission with four speeds for the atmospheric gasoline four-cylinder with a volume of 1.6 liters (69 kW) and two for the traction electric motor with 36 kilowatts. The system is supplemented by an 18 kW starter-generator, while the hybrid’s system output reaches 105 kilowatts.

Mitsubishi provides a 5-year/100,000-kilometer warranty on the car itself, and 8-year/160,000-kilometer warranty on the traction battery and its capacity in the hybrid. Up to fifteen-year-old assistance service will be interesting. The refreshed Mitsubishi ASX will go on sale this fall.
