Much ado about nothing? The Tesla Cybertruck is still a scrap

--

There is huge media attention surrounding the electric pickup truck of the American automaker. At the same time, its sales in the United States are in the lower thousands.

The Tesla Cybertruck has been gaining worldwide attention for years before its official debut. The launch was postponed several times due to various problems, so the first few dozen lucky ones did not receive it until December of last year. Since then, production and deliveries have been increased, but they are still in the higher hundreds per month.

According to JATO Dynamics, exactly 2,803 cybertrucks were sold in the United States in the first quarter of this year. There were 869 of them in January, 925 in February, and 1009 in March. Compared to other Teslas, these are “tiny”, especially the most sought-after Y and 3 Highland models, which account for tens of thousands of units sold every month in America alone.

The Tesla Cybertruck on the American market starts at $60,990 (about 1.43 million crowns) per rear wheel. However, this version will only be available in 2025. You won’t have better luck with four-wheelers for $79,990 or $99,990, i.e. for 1,875,000 and 2,345,000 crowns, which can already be ordered, but according to Tesla’s official website, delivery is scheduled until next year.

The pick-up segment in the US is one of the most popular. From January to March, 595,400 of these cars were sold here, with almost 540,000 of them having a gasoline engine or a mild-hybrid (in this case, unfortunately, the data does not specify the type of fuel) and 41,500 cars powered by a hybrid. Electric pick-ups alone recorded only 14,200 units, i.e. 2.3% within the segment. In this light, the sales and almost 20 percent share of the Tesla Cybertruck don’t look so bad after all.

Only the Ford F-150 Lightning fared better, with 7,335 units accounting for an 8.7% share of total F-150 sales. Rivian R1T scored 2737 copies, Chevrolet Silverado EV 1061 cars, Hummer EV only 272 units.

The electric pickup category is clearly not taking off in the United States. At the same time, at least for work, this concept is very suitable, but American customers still did not like it.
