During the first meeting with the new Dacia Duster, we tested the four-wheeler in the field, tested the economical, if a bit wayward hybrid, and raved about the qualitative shift in many respects. However, one major innovation remained in the shadow of the other innovations, which we think is a pity. It is a brilliantly simple solution!

What are we talking about? About the button on the instrument panel to the left of the steering wheel. His name is My Safety and serves to quickly deactivate assistance systems. There are more and more mandatory ones in new cars. Here the driver’s attention monitoring beeps at you, after a while it monitors the maximum permitted speed, at other times the unpleasant pulling of the steering wheel from the lane guidance assistant calls for a word.

In addition, most of these “helpers” are activated with the next start, so you have to turn them off before each drive. And in some cars it is especially complicated. For example, premium models with touchscreens probably enjoy hiding the deactivation. You need to press the appropriate button, hold it for a long time, or simply click through the menu, where the functions are buried deep in the system. In short, poisoning…

In addition, the Duster’s simple button seems out of this world. You only need to press it once to call up the assistants, and then press it again to select the driver’s default setting. In it, you have already selected in advance which assistants you want and do not want to leave active. Magically simple, plus it takes about three seconds altogether. Bravo!

Overall, it is clear that the creators thought of the driver when designing the Duster. The traditional buttons for temperature adjustment are still preserved, the 10.1″ screen of the multimedia system is again tilted ten degrees towards the driver, so that the person behind the wheel can see it more easily and control it better. What’s more, the smart assistance button will also appear in other dacias and cars of the parent Renault in the future.
