The new BMW M4 CS is official: The older brother of the M3 CS sedan has 550 horsepower and less weight

--

In Munich, they present a new version of the current BMW M4. The even sportier CS (Club Sport) specification combines the best of the entry-level Competition xDrive coupe and its older sibling, the M3 CS sedan.

When the Munich-based BMW M sports division celebrated its 50th anniversary two years ago, one of the spectacular gifts was an exclusive BMW M4 CSL. After twenty years, it continued the tradition of “Coupé Sport Leichtbau” models and subsequently became the inspiration for the fast sedan M3 CS. And now in Munich they have finally decided to introduce the same specification for the four-door coupé. So welcome the new BMW M4 CS!

The novelty has all the technical improvements with which the M3 CS sedan was introduced earlier. The new BMW M4 CS is based on the top standard version of the M4 Competition xDrive and sits between it and the top-of-the-line M4 CSL in the brand’s limited production range – only 1,000 units were built. The main attractions of the new “M-four Club Sport” are higher performance, specific chassis settings and lower weight – compared to the M4 Competition xDrive, it is approximately 20 kilograms lighter.

The twin-turbocharged three-liter inline six-cylinder S58 has a maximum output of 405 kW (550 hp) in the CS specification. However, compared to the facelifted Competition model, it is not that much of an increase, as the engine has grown by only 15 kW (20 hp). BMW says it achieved the higher performance by increasing the maximum boost pressure of the two single-chamber turbochargers to 2.1 bar, along with a specific modification of the control unit.

The peak torque then remains unchanged at up to 650 newton meters, and the standard Club Sport version is M xDrive all-wheel drive with optional switching to rear-wheel drive only mode. The novelty can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and develop an electronically limited maximum speed of 302 km/h. In the basic equipment, you will brake with steel brakes, and optionally you can reach for more powerful carbon-ceramic ones.

The only transmission available for the M4 CS coupe is ZF’s eight-speed M Steptronic automatic, and BMW says BMW M engineers have developed a specific adaptive chassis setup as well. In addition, with technology derived from the world of motorsport, the new “M-four” went to the famous German racing circuit Nürburgring, where it achieved a final time of 7 minutes and 21.989 seconds. The default version of the Competition has managed it in the past with a worse time of 7 minutes and 28.570 seconds.

BMW has also prepared a specific design for the M4 CS with a distinctive red frame of traditional kidney stones inspired by the top CSL, bronze forged wheels and a lot of carbon accessories. The interior features carbon shell seats and state-of-the-art architecture with a curved display combining a digital instrument panel with the iDrive 8 infotainment touchscreen.

The new BMW M4 CS will start production at the factory in Dingolfing already in July, and you will be able to order it at the end of May. The list of extras also includes a special M reinforcement for the engine compartment to increase torsional rigidity. However, we will have to wait for the publication of the official Czech price.
