What is it and when to go for it

Recently, the singer stirred up public opinion quite strongly Dara Rollinswhen she showed her face after facelift. She caught a lot of unkind comments for it, many thought that she no longer looked like herself at all, others that she didn’t need it, because she looked great for her age (51 years old). She faced the wave of hate more than bravely with the justification that what she does with her face is her business. And if they feel good like that, who cares…

And he is absolutely right. My face, my choice. And my responsibility. It is precisely in this spirit that aesthetic modifications should be approached.

Should I go for a facelift?

Looking in the mirror in the morning, when a tired, haggard face is looking at us, is usually a signal to think: “I have to do something with myself.” But what? Familiarizing yourself with the range of different rejuvenating procedures is not easy. So a consultation is the first thing you should consider. It’s far from just age, there are many factors at play: how much your skin has lost elasticity, how you’ve taken care of it up until now, and which procedures you’ve already undergone.

“Surgical face lifting should be performed at the moment when the methods of corrective dermatology are no longer sufficient to achieve a satisfactory result, certainly not at the first visible ptosis (decline) of the tissue,” explains aesthetic medicine expert Ivana Pokorná from the Formositas clinic.

The effect of surgical lifting lasts approximately seven to ten years, sometimes even longer, but it is very individual and depends on many factors.

“The ideal candidate for a facelift is a woman (or man) whose skin begins to lose its elasticity and deep wrinkles appear around the eyes and mouth, or significantly sagging skin in the area of the lower face and neck. Age limit is not important. The condition of the skin is important,” points out plastic surgeon Roman Kufa from Perfect Clinic.

What is a face lift?

  • “This English name has been used for face and neck operations that can deal with the signs of aging – i.e. sagging skin, fat pads and wrinkles,” explains plastic surgeon Svatopluk Svoboda from the 1st Cologne sanatorium. The operation is usually performed under a combination of local and general anesthesia.
  • The incision is made in the hairy part of the head in the area above the temple in front of the front edge of the auricle. The scar is thus hardly noticeable afterwards. “Excess skin is removed, and at the same time the surgeon can turn off the weak mimic muscles and thus accentuate the resulting effect,” adds Svatopluk Svoboda. The whole operation is a rather demanding surgical procedure. It is not unusual for it to take several hours.
  • Healing usually takes 10-15 days. “Bandages are removed on approximately the fifth day and stitches approximately between the 10th and 14th day after surgery. Women should not apply make-up until one week after the stitches are removed. Slight swelling of the face may persist for some time, as well as reduced sensitivity of the operated parts,” adds plastic surgeon Roman Kufa.

Will laser help?

“Modern aesthetic medicine offers a wide range of device treatments that lead to the start of natural regeneration processes in the skin and subcutaneous tissue – firming, compacting and visible lifting,” explains Ivana Pokorná. Mini-invasive treatments include, for example, a procedure called Edolift. It’s about laser procedure – a thin micro-optical fiber, at the end of which a laser beam is emitted, is inserted into the subcutaneous tissue, and any area on the body and face, including the upper and lower eyelids, including the upper and lower eyelids, is treated with small exceptions (forehead or décolleté). Slight swelling after the procedure subsides within a week, and the rejuvenating effect starts gradually within 3-5 months.

Choose wisely

Another option is a method called skinbooster. “It is an ideal procedure for dehydrated, dry skin that loses its elasticity. The fractional CO2 laser is also very effective, which restores collagen production and removes fine wrinkles,” says Roman Kufa. A method in which radio frequency (heat) is applied to the skin using fine gold-plated needles is also suitable, which restores the production of collagen, thereby rejuvenating the skin and improving its structure.

The effect of less invasive procedures lasts a maximum of two years, some can be combined. But if you do not go to one doctor, it is always necessary to inform which procedures you have already undergone before each procedure. And also don’t expect complete miracles. As Ivana Pokorná points out: “Aging cannot be stopped, aesthetic medicine can only slow down and correct its manifestations.”
