The kitchen was on fire in the Jablonec hospital, firefighters rescued two people

“The Jablonec hospital is not on fire,” reassured the spokeswoman of the regional fire department, Jaroslava Benešová, saying that colleagues are working on the premises of the medical facility, specifically on the third floor of one of the operational buildings.

Several dozens of people evacuated themselves, two people were rescued by firefighters using evacuation masks. “At the moment, we have not reported any injured persons,” added Benešová. She specified that the incident was reported to the operations center a few minutes after eleven o’clock in the morning.

“There was a fire inside the air handling unit, we reported it before it was fully engulfed. It was mainly smoky here, we were all evacuated. It is now under control,” commented hospital spokeswoman Jana Luňáková.

According to her, the air conditioning system was on fire in the premises of the boiler room, which is adjacent to the dining room. It is building E, which is away from the main buildings where the patients are. “No one was injured,” concluded Luňáková. The premises are dirty and smell of smoke.

According to the spokesman of the medical emergency service, Michael Georgiev, the paramedics examined two people on the spot. “Apparently they inhaled smoke, but their condition did not require hospitalization,” he summarized.

Petra Knížková, the representative spokesperson of the Liberec Region Fire Rescue Service, explained that the reason for declaring the third level of alarm was not the extent of the fire, but the fact that it was burning in the premises of the hospital, which belongs to critical infrastructure.

“The site of the intervention was divided into two sections. Around 12:15, the incident commander reported the location of the fire. At the moment, we are also ventilating the building using positive pressure ventilation,” the firefighters told the X network.
