They introduced themselves as policemen and then robbed the man in Ostrava of everything

Criminal investigators from Ostrava’s Mariánské Hory charged all three men with the particularly serious crime of robbery and the offense of unauthorized provision, forgery and alteration of means of payment. The police filed a motion to place them in custody, which the judge accepted.

The robbery took place on Mariánské náměstí in Ostrava, where the victim parked his car. “The whistleblower stated that he was approached by three men who identified themselves as police officers. They were aggressive and demanded everything he had on him. None of the alleged police officers had a uniform or presented a service card,” Ostrava police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková said.

She added that everything happened in a car parked on Mariánské náměstí. “The victim managed to get out, but the unknown perpetrators still knocked him to the ground and hit him. In the end, they stole, among other things, his documents, payment cards, wireless headphones, but also a backpack full of food,” the police spokeswoman added.

Police patrols immediately arrived at the scene and began searching for robbers in the area. Even though the announcement was made roughly 10 minutes after the crime was committed, the perpetrators were already gone. They left by car. “A big role was played by the presence of mind of the victim, who remembered part of the license plate, which certainly contributed to a faster identification of the owner of the vehicle in which the perpetrators drove away,” explained Michalíková.

One offender refused to testify

Criminal investigators from Ostrava’s Mariánské Hory took over the case. They immediately began to search for all the perpetrators who could be responsible for the robbery. Their search led them all the way to Opava, where the Hlučín police helped them identify the third perpetrator.

All the detained accused have extensive criminal records. They are 44, 51 and 56 years old. “The oldest of the accused men did not cooperate with the criminal investigators, he used his legal right and did not testify in the matter. The other accused testified, but their versions of the crime differed,” summed up the police spokeswoman.
