Last year on Maundy Thursday they brutally beat the homeless, now they have heard the punishments

--

The brutal attack took place last year on Maundy Thursday in Znojmo, and the verdict was announced at the Brno court a year later, also on Maundy Thursday.

Last year, the couple was returning from a local restaurant when they saw a man sitting on a bench at a nearby children’s playground, with whom Neužil allegedly had a conflict because the man had petted his dog without permission the previous day.

“Vaverka first hit the victim with his open palm and then with his fist. The victim was then pulled from the bench and Neužil stepped on his head several times. Vaverka filmed it on his phone,” said public prosecutor Robert Hanuš in the indictment at the Brno Regional Court.

The prosecutor described the attack as grievous bodily harm resulting in death. The men then pleaded guilty in front of the senate, headed by Roman Kafka, but the court refused to accept it, because one of the men thought about stricter legal qualifications, which was finally confirmed.

It was him! No, it’s him!

Before the trial, the men blamed each other. “Vaverka attacked him first, gave him some blows to the head, but he sat and didn’t even turn around. So I got into it, I gave him about fifteen blows, my hands were covered in blood. He continued to sit. Then we went home, but Vaverka evaporated, I went to look for him and saw him leaving the field with blood on his pants,” testified Neužil.

Vaverka, on the other hand, blamed his partner, whose attack, according to him, he filmed. “I showed the video to my wife, it shows Neužil yelling at the homeless man and stomping on his head. He stomped as if he wanted to step on a nut,” he said, adding that he had already deleted the video.

Judge Kafka’s senate finally punished Neužil for murder. “He had to be aware of the possible consequences of such an attack,” Kafka explained. Vaverka, on the other hand, according to the judges, did not prove a deadly attack, so he was only punished for attempted grievous bodily harm.
