Former president Miloš Zeman should be released from the Motol hospital on Wednesday after less than three weeks. He has been hospitalized there since mid-March after undergoing surgery for a critical lack of blood in his leg.

According to the doctors, Zeman was in critical condition in the intensive care unit after the procedure. He was later transferred to an internal clinic. Three sources directly from the Motol hospital confirmed to Seznam Zprávám that his condition has now improved to such an extent that doctors expect Zeman to be released from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. However, one of the sources pointed out that the final decision will be made on Wednesday.

Pavlína Danková, spokeswoman for the Motolsk hospital, only stated that a press conference will be held on Wednesday due to Miloš Zeman’s health condition. “Until then, I cannot comment on anything,” said Danková.

Also, Zeman’s close colleagues do not want to comment on the information about his release from the hospital. “We agreed that only the hospital would inform about everything,” Martin Nejedlý, who is one of Zeman’s closest collaborators, told Seznam Zprávám.

“I know that the hospital’s press conference is tomorrow, so they should tell the news,” said former president’s spokesman Jiří Ovčáček.

Doctors already said at the press conference held the week before last that Zeman had to be in artificial sleep for several hours after this operation and was also connected to pulmonary ventilation. “The leg was really badly injured. We managed to remove a lot of clots,” described Miloslav Roček, the head of the Motola clinic for imaging methods.

Miloš Zeman repeatedly had health problems during his tenure as President of the Republic. Already at the beginning of his first term in office in 2013, doctors informed him that he suffers from polyfunctional neuropathy, which causes him to lose feeling in his legs, which is a neurological complication of diabetes.

In April 2021, Zeman announced that he had decided to move to a wheelchair due to problems with walking and stability. Because of this, he always had to be accompanied by the president’s security personnel.
