Witnesses to the tragic accident called 911 before 8:30 a.m.
“The operator started phone-assisted emergency resuscitation with the caller, then our crews took over the care of the patient. Unfortunately, he suffered such serious injuries that he died on the spot,” informed Monika Nováková, spokeswoman for the Central Bohemian Rescue Service.
“According to the investigation so far, detectives have found that the 85-year-old pedestrian was crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing, where he was probably overlooked by the truck driver, which led to the collision. The elderly man who was hit suffered such serious injuries that he unfortunately died on the spot,” said Michaela Richterová, spokesperson for the Central Bohemian Police. The police ordered an autopsy on the deceased.
The truck driver escaped without injury, a breathalyzer test confirmed that he had not been drinking before driving.
“The traffic accident has been taken over by Kladno’s criminal investigators, who will investigate all the circumstances of this tragic event. They initiated criminal proceedings in the matter on suspicion of committing the crime of manslaughter by negligence,” added Richterová.
