The neglected station building in Klatovy is due for major reconstruction in the coming years. The Railway Administration has currently issued a tender for contractors with an estimated value of 393 million crowns. She planned to start the construction for this fall, and it should be finished at the beginning of 2027. The building from the 1950s is a listed building.

The work will mainly involve the reconstruction of the check-in hall and both wings of the building. Among other things, there will be a new public toilet or facilities for bus drivers from the planned terminal, which will be created in the area in front of the station.

“Not only the building, but the entire station will be barrier-free, thanks to the elevators that will connect the underpass with the platforms and the check-in hall. Cyclists will appreciate the brick shed for bikes.” added SŽ spokesperson Nela Eberl Friebová.

The building was built in the late 1950s according to the design of the architect Josef Danda on the site of the original railway station from the 19th century, which was demolished. The interior features sgraffito decoration by Václav Matas in the spirit of socialist realism.

Klatovy is a railway junction of several lines, while the section Klatovy – Pilsen is electrified. The electric traction system was brought to Klatov in 1996.
