On Friday, April 26, the 12th edition of the Prague Kite Race takes place. A trolleybus or a shared bicycle can now be used as a means of transport. Registration of participants is from 3 p.m. at the Public Transport Museum in Střešovice, where the finish line is also located.
“The priority of the Prague 6 district is to support travel by public transport. This race practically proves that it is possible to use public transport very quickly and efficiently within Prague and thus avoid unnecessary complications that lie in wait for car drivers in normal traffic. I take part in the race regularly and I am curious how successful I will be this year with the chosen route tactics,” says Ondřej Matěj Hrubeš (ODS), councilor for transport of the Prague 6 district.
Competitors of all age categories or school and work groups can take part in the tactical race in integrated transport in the metropolis. The competition itself lasts from 4 to 7 p.m. The winner is the competitor who, within three hours, obtains the maximum number of points for the most lines, stops and special bonus stops, mainly in the territory of Prague and its immediate surroundings. Each competitor chooses his own route and collects points according to its convenience. There is no entry fee. For this year, there were innovations in the rules. The start will take place from an unknown location from a tram car. It is now also possible to use shared bicycles or a trolleybus as a means of transport.
This year’s edition will take place thanks to the financial support of the Prague 6 district. The organizer is the Jaroslav Foglar Association.
Last year, as part of the European Mobility Week, the district prepared the first Traffic Orientation in the territory of Prague 6, and this year it is preparing its second edition.
