Olomouc will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Czech Republic’s accession to the European Union with music, films, workshops and discussions. This year, the theme of Europe will also be reflected in the student Majáles. The event will be watched by ČTK Connect, which broadcasts the live entry.

On Tuesday, May 7, Republic Square will come to life with celebrations, where visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy busker concerts, the Opráski českí historje exhibition and gain a deeper insight into the functioning of the European Union thanks to the presentation of almost twenty organizations cooperating with Eurocentre EUROPE DIRECT Olomouc. Workshops, debates, quizzes and fun competitions will introduce people to current programs, initiatives of organizations and the specific form of cooperation they offer. The program at náměstí Republiky will be from 2 to 7 p.m., until late in the evening, after which the entertainment will continue on Biskupské náměstí and in the Armory within the student Majáles. The one in Mariánské street will present dozens of student organizations, in Biskupské náměstí a relaxation zone with lots of workshops, and in Zbrojnica the main program in the form of concerts and the coronation of King Majáles.

A few days earlier, on the last day of April, the blue-lit town hall drew attention to the celebrations of the anniversary of the Czech Republic’s entry into the EU. It will be illuminated in the European blue color, together with other important buildings across the Czech Republic, until May 9.

You can find a detailed program for the “20 years in the EU” celebrations at https://20letveu.olomouc.euMajáles program on www.olomouckymajales.cz. The celebrations are part of the Olomouc majáles of Palacký University in Olomouc.

The live broadcast and reportage from náměstí Republiky is part of the joint project of ČTK Connect and the European Parliament, which opens important topics in connection with 20 years of Czech membership in the EU and before the June EP elections. The organizational partners of the filming are the Eurocentrum EUROPE DIRECT Olomouc and the Office of the EP in the Czech Republic, based in Prague.
