Last year, Prague police officers dealt with roughly 1.99 million traffic violations, which is about 300,000 more than last year. Most of the offenses related to bad parking. The patrols issued 86,886 fines for them in the total amount of about 35.83 million crowns, which is approximately ten million crowns more year-on-year.

“The majority of these offenses were parking offences, i.e. no parking, no stopping, no stopping and standing on the pavement, illegal parking in paid parking zones, in a residential zone and so on,” said a spokeswoman for the Prague city police Irena Seifertová.

Drivers committed the most offenses in parking zones, where they committed 950,694, which is roughly 200,000 more cases year-on-year. For this, the police officers handed out 4,669 fines worth about 2.65 million crowns. The second most frequent violation was the violation of signs prohibiting stopping and standing and parking on the sidewalk. Officers caught drivers committing this offense in 316,513 cases, which is also a year-on-year increase. The fines reached almost eight million crowns.

The city police also monitored unauthorized parking in residential areas, recording 33,182 violations. By illegally parking in a no-parking zone, drivers committed 55,966 offences. They were also guilty of parking at a pedestrian crossing or standing in an intersection, which together happened in more than 50,000 cases. The city police also handed out fines for parking in pedestrian zones or unauthorized parking in reserved parking lots.

Last week, in addition to their normal activities, police officers focused on unauthorized parking in places for the disabled, where they discovered 584 violations and handed out fines for about 120,000 crowns. They referred part of the offenses to administrative proceedings and resolved 15 by agreement. The most offenses were committed by drivers in Prague 3, 5, 1, 9 and 10. Last year, the city police dealt with 11,989 such offenses and imposed 2,313 fines for almost 1.4 million crowns.
