KHS of the South Bohemian Region: 153 cases of whooping cough, 1,476 were confirmed in the region this year

In seventeen weeks this year, South Bohemian hygienists recorded a total of 1,476 cases of whooping cough (pertussis). Last week there were 153 new cases in the South Bohemian Region, which is 7 more than in the previous 16th calendar week.

“Over the seventeen weeks of the year we register a total of 1,476 confirmed cases of pertussis, with an increase of 153 last week. This is 7 more than the increase the week before. The most exposed groups have always been high school students, we register 469 cases in the 15-19 age category, which is almost a third of all reported cases in the region. As for the districts, we register the most cases in Českobudějovick, where there are 590 cases, and in Jindřichohradeck, where there are 277 cases. We register 23 cases among children under one year of age as the most vulnerable age group, two new cases have been added in the past week,” says the director of the Regional Hygiene Station of the South Bohemian Region doc. MD Kvetoslava Kotrbová, Ph.D.

“As of the seventeenth week, the most – 590 cases – were confirmed in České Budějovice (+44 new ones for the past week). In Jindřichohradecky there were 277 cases (+20), in Český Krumlov 139 (+12), in Prachatick 123 (+10), in Strakonick 117 (+24), in Táborsk 134 (+17) and in Písek we register 96 cases (+26 ). As for age groups, the most – 469 cases – we register in the 15-19 age group, we registered 225 cases among school children in the 10-14 age group and 116 cases among younger school children 5-9 years old. Seventy-seven cases have been reported among children from one to four years of age and 23 cases among newborns and infants under one year of age. Among adults, the most – 166 cases – were reported in the 45-54 age group and 130 in the 35-44 age group. On the contrary, the lowest incidence is among seniors in the 75+ group, 29 cases, among young people in the 20-24 age group there are 36 cases,” specified the data on the occurrence of whooping cough in the South Bohemian Region for the 17th week, director of the anti-epidemic department of the KHS of the South Bohemian Region, MD .
