The Prague 1 Office has begun approving a new proposal for restrictions by which the city district plans to prohibit nighttime entry between 22:00 and 06:00 into the Old Town area around Pařížská Street. The decree will now be posted on the official board of the first city district so that the public can comment on it. Prague 1 spokeswoman Karolína Šnejdarová informed about it.

Prague 1 already introduced the night ban last November, but it was immediately canceled by the Municipal Department of Roads and Railways. Now the city district has informed that it has discussed the proposal with the municipality in advance.

With the decree restricting night traffic, Prague 1 continues its efforts to calm down night traffic in the center of the capital. “After a thorough political discussion, the decree banning entry to the Old Town area around Pařížská street between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. was finalized,” spokeswoman Šnejdarová described.

The purpose of the decree is to change the traffic signs in the streets Králodvorská, Dlouhá, Soukenická, Kozí, Pařížská, Břehová, Revoluční, Dvořákovo nábřeží and 17. november, which will calm the core part of the Old Town. The decree will apply to all motor vehicles, with the exception of traffic attendants,” said the mayor of the first city district, Terezie Radoměřská (TOP 09).

This means that vehicles of the taxi service, Bolt or similar platforms will be able to enter the area.

Do you agree with restricting the entry of cars into the center at night?

“The aim of the measure is to reduce the noise at night, which residents of this residential area have been complaining about for a long time,” the mayor added to the decree.

The Mayor of Prague, Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS), who initiated the immediate cancellation of the regulation last year, has now announced in the draft decree: “The restriction of entry to a certain part of Prague must be consulted with the other city parts and there must be general agreement on it.”

“We have now discussed the proposal with the municipality in advance and subsequently modified it according to his comments. It was more about formal changes, in principle it is the same measure as last year,” said Prague 1 councilor for transport Vojtěch Ryvola (elected for Naše PRAHA 1).

According to him, taking into account all deadlines and possible appeals, it should come into effect in the middle of this year at the latest.
