The decree last November caused a lot of opposition. However, its new version is almost identical.

Prague 1 has completed amendments to the controversial decree prohibiting cars from entering the city center at night. The mayor and other city districts protested against the ban. However, according to transport councilor Vojtěch Ryvola, the modifications were purely formal and after public discussion, the installed but invalidated no-entry signs should start to apply from June.

With the decree restricting night traffic, the city district wants to calm down night traffic in the center of the capital. According to previous statements by the town hall management, the main problem is cars “racing in the streets at night”.

The ban is to apply between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. in the Old Town area around Pařížská Street. Specifically, the decree introduced no-entry signs in the streets Králodvorská, Dlouhá, Soukenická, Kozí, Pařížská, Břehová, Revoluční, Dvořákovo nábřeží and 17 November.

The night ban on entering the center of Prague caused consternation. The town hall blames TSK, the mayor canceled the signs

“Its introduction will calm down the core part of the Old Town. The ordinance will apply to all motor vehicles with the exception of traffic attendants,” said the mayor of the first city district, Terezie Radoměřská.

The document is now posted on the official board of the first city district so that people can access it express the public. “The aim of the measures is to reduce the noise at night, which residents of this residential area have been complaining about for a long time,” the mayor added.

No one knew about it

The signs suddenly appeared on the streets last November. Prague politicians were surprised, Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda then had them annulled through the municipality. “The restriction of entry to a certain part of Prague must be consulted with other city parts and there must be general agreement on it,” said Svoboda at the time.

According to Ryvola, this has now happened. “We have now discussed the proposal with the municipality in advance and subsequently modified it according to his comments,” the councilor confirmed. He adds, however, that these were more formal changes and, in principle, it is the same measure as last year.

According to him, taking into account all deadlines and possible appeals, the decree should come into effect in the middle of this year at the latest.
