Experts found deficiencies on five repaired roads in the Olomouc region, the technical condition of which was checked by the regional authority in connection with the case of illegal influence on public contracts for transport constructions in the region. On the roads, for example, some structural layers are missing or did not have the required thickness. In one case, the region will demand a discount from the construction company for the completed contract, for other poorly repaired roads, it is preparing a complaint with a demand for thorough repairs, including the laying of a new road, at the expense of the construction companies. Hetman Josef Suchánek (STAN) told journalists today.
Last fall, the police charged 13 people in the case of illegally influencing public contracts for transport construction in the Olomouc region, including the former deputy governor and former regional head of the ODS, Michal Zácha. The list of accused also includes representatives of the Road Administration of the Olomouc Region and employees of construction companies. Most of them have confessed to criminal activity, the prosecuted are at large.
Olomouc deputy chief prosecutor Radek Bartoš said today that it is not yet possible to estimate when the investigation of the case will be completed. “The number of accused and the legal assessment of the acts they are accused of have not changed. In the case of some acts, when the criminal prosecution was initiated, the damage was calculated in the order of tens of millions of crowns, when some actions in the investigation are also aimed at its proper clarification. stated
According to the preliminary calculation of the police, the organized criminal group caused damage of approximately 50 million crowns. The actors in the case obtained financial benefits by cheating construction works in terms of the used material and technological procedures, improper disposal of hazardous waste, and part of the money by overestimating the price.
At the request of the regional office, experts examined six contracts for the repair of regional roads, which were suspected of cheating technological procedures in connection with the case. According to Suchánek, the analyzes confirmed, for example, problems in the missing structural layers of reconstructed roads. Deficiencies concern, for example, the road from the village of Trhavice to the town of Libavá, from Velká Bystřice to Mrskles, some sections of the road from Slatinice to Olomouc, the repaired road in Slatinky in Olomouc or part of the reconstructed road II/449 in Litovli in Olomouc.
For example, in Slatinky, according to the results of the analysis, three layers of the road were missing, and the road surface was also of poor thickness. According to the director of the Road Administration of the Olomouc region, Ivo Černý, the identified deficiencies do not threaten road safety. According to Suchánek, not all types of tests performed had bad results. For example, most of the stress tests, which are key to assessing the durability of the road surface, came out well.
According to Suchánek, the regional office will apply complaints with the maximum possible severity. The governor’s office will also require the construction companies to pay the costs of the analyses, for which they paid a total of 600,000 crowns.
