The shadow minister of the ANO opposition movement Kamal Farhan became the leader of the ANO candidate in the Pilsen region for the autumn regional elections. The candidates for the post of governor were decided by the participants of the regional assembly, which also approved the entire regional candidate list.
“Kamal Farhan is a doctor by education, currently a Member of Parliament and also my party colleague who is an expert on healthcare. We are good friends so I vouch for Kamal. She is the ideal person who should lead the governorship and, for me, unequivocally the strongest leader of all the candidates,” informed the regional head of ANO and the mayor of Pilsen Roman Zarzycky.
As Zarzycký himself stated, the post of mayor of Pilsen remains a priority for him. He will support the ANO candidate for the regional elections with his participation from the seventh place.
Candidate for governor Kamal Farhan is a great lover of Šumava and Pilsen football. Recently, he has been actively involved in, for example, banning the sale of psychoactive substances HHC, HHC-O and THCP. He criticized the government’s ban, which will end on January 1, 2025, when the upcoming amendment to the Act on Addictive Substances, which labels substances as psychoactive and regulates their sale, should already apply.
“It will not solve the overall problem, the ban will mean only one thing. It’s a synthetic cannabinoid, in the future there will be other synthetics with similar derivatives in the form of cookies, candy or whatever.” stated Kamal Farhan. According to him, the government also left out the issue of kratom. This substance is also among those that should be addressed by the upcoming amendment. According to Farhan, the Ministry of Health should prepare a clear and modern anti-drug policy in cooperation with experts, which will respond to the trends of recent years.
Behind Kamal Farhan on the candidate list are the current deputy governors – Petr Vanka and Martin Záhoř. The 60-year-old Vanka is also the ANO candidate for the senate elections in the district that includes Rokycany and northern Pilsen. In the Domažlice district, which also includes part of Klatovsk, the ANO candidate is 70-year-old regional representative Jan Látka. Látka was the mayor of Domažlice, later a deputy and senator, always for the ČSSD (today SOCDEM). He was also elected to the current regional council as a member of the Social Democrats, he later left his long-time party and joined the ANO club as an independent; now, according to Zarzycký, he is already a member of ANO.
