We painted the apartment at the weekend. You probably know it. The moment when you can take the opportunity and rid the household of unnecessary items that you have owned for years and that once may have made you happy. Maybe they don’t really interfere with anything, but it’s good to get rid of at least a few of these dust collectors once in a while. And the city district has many of them. As of mid-April, we managed 665 different non-residential premises. Restaurants in Vinohradská, nice offices in Ostromečská, but also, for example, various small rooms in the basements of old houses, which are mouldy, damp, with heating pipes running through them, and someone could easily shoot a horror film in them, which could be shown at the Die-hard Viewer’s Festival in Aero.

Just a few years ago, I would have repeated the mantra “The city should keep as much property as possible to have as much revenue as possible, and definitely not sell anything”. However, we decided to gradually sell these unpromising non-residential units — transparently, in the form of an electronic auction.

In the current state, some have been unoccupied for years and the possible rental income is in the tens of thousands of crowns per month. And if we wanted to repair them, we would have to solve an increasingly pressing question — would we rather spend hundreds of thousands on repairing an ugly basement or an unoccupied apartment? Or will we give money to develop the competences of teachers in schools? Because, unfortunately, the district has no money to spare. And we have to choose. That is why we are now selling some non-apartments. The collected money can then be used for more important investments — for example, playground reconstruction or energy measures in our buildings. And let our dust collectors serve someone else, perhaps just you.
