Bechtel – a member of the American consortium responsible for the implementation of the project – is also responsible for the geological survey. Geological work will start already this month and will take place in the investment location in the village of Choczewo on an area of approximately 30 hectares.

As part of the implemented activities, approx. 220 research wells with a depth of 20 to 210 meters will be carried out. The data obtained in this way will refine the research carried out so far on the geological, engineering and hydrogeological conditions of the territory. The results will then be used when working on the Localization Report necessary for obtaining a building permit.

The biggest technical obstacle to the whole project is that the Polish government has not yet adopted any financing model. However, he wants to negotiate with the European Commission such conditions that would prevent subsequent EC intervention in the process of financing the power plant. The model of nuclear financing in the Czech Republic approved by the Commission regarding Dukovany 2 could show the Poles the way.

Jan Chadam from PEJ stated at the Europower-OZE congress that the project will definitely be delayed (the power plant was supposed to be commissioned in 2033) and will cost approximately PLN 150 billion. He emphasized that the company is in the stage of preparing financing.

Regarding the debt part, talks were held with a consortium of financial advisors who will help with obtaining financing on global markets, with the understanding that no Polish bank would be able to finance a project of this scale. He added that the company expects the participation of the American EXIM Bank and has a preliminary agreement with it, which still requires further clarification.
