Prague 1 is trying to revive the night ban on entry to selected streets in the center of the metropolis

Prague 1 banned night entry to a large part of the Old Town, due to noise

It is true that the nighttime entry ban is to return to the part of the Old Town around Pařížská street. The difference against measure canceled in the fall? This time, the ban signs are supposed to apply after a thorough political discussion and the incorporation of comments.

When the music turns into a riot

Břehová, Dlouhá, Dvořákovo nábřeží, Kozí, Králodvorská, Pařížská, Revoluční, Soukenická and November 17. These are the streets to be covered by the upcoming ones old entry bans in the upcoming decree.

“The aim of the measure is to reduce the noise at night, which the residents of this residential area have been complaining about for a long time,” explained the mayor of Prague 1, Terezie Radoměřská (TOP 09). She specified that according to the new decree, the night entry ban should apply to all motor vehicles, with the exception of traffic attendants. “Its introduction will calm down the core part of the Old Town,” he expects.

The municipality did not know about the night ban on entry to the center. Will invalidate the marking

Until now, people living in the vicinity of clubs and other businesses, where people go out for night entertainment, suffer noticeably from noise – and the traffic of cars has a non-negligible part of it. It is not an exception to honking, riding motorbikes – even racing tastes are sometimes used, Councilor Ryvola pointed out already in the autumn.

Last week, Štěpán Kuchta from Dlouhá ulica recalled how annoying the loud music coming from the cars is. He lives there for almost half a century – and fights for nothing to change; not to be “pissed off”. On April 22, he even drew attention to the noise problem, which literally keeps the locals awake, by announcing a hunger strike.

He was reacting to the permission for a new restaurant front garden near his residence. In addition to cars, he named restaurants and their visitors as the culprits of the chronic brawl in the streets. Both the establishments themselves, from which rhythmic music often blares, and rowdy parties passing from one refreshment room to another.

New ban without controversy

At least a partial calming down of the streets should be brought about by nighttime entry restrictions. Councilor Ryvola assured that this time the situation from the autumn, when Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS) initiated the “invalidation” already posted prohibition signs – with the argument that their installation was preceded by a faulty procedure. “We have now discussed the proposal with the municipality in advance – and subsequently modified it according to his comments,” said Ryvola.

He noted that the new decree hardly differs from last year’s measure, the one that was cancelled. The content is practically the same, the changes are, according to his assessment, of a more formal nature. And it is important that the public can familiarize themselves with the text on the official board of the municipal district – and then comment on it.

Curfews in the center arouse emotions: the introduction surprised, the immediate cancellation shocks

Mayor Svoboda insists that the draft of the Prague 1 decree must also be consulted with representatives of other city districts – and it is impossible for it to cause controversy. “There must be general agreement on it,” the mayor emphasized.

The Jedničky town hall expects the re-introduction of entry bans, which this time should be definitive, in the foreseeable future: in the middle of this year at the latest. This estimate already takes into account the set deadline and the possibility of possible appeals.

Would banning costumes calm the streets?

In connection with other measures that could bring more peace to the streets, representatives of Prague 1 also recently discussed whether the district should ask the capital city for measures in the form of restrictions on the operation of restaurants. They did not agree on that.

They decided, however, that they would strive for a ban on disgusting things in the form of costume renditions of men’s naturals or even flamingos, which are especially worn by participants in bachelorette parties. According to Mayor Radoměřská, even children can meet drunken foreigners in vulgar disguises on their way to school in the morning.

Prague 1 wants to properly enforce the night-time entry ban canceled by the municipality

The City Hall of Prague 1 is supposed to discuss such rules with the municipality – however, discussions can be expected as to whether it is possible to enforce moderation in the clothing of people on the street by legal means. As a counterargument, there will certainly be news from abroad about the determination of some localities to fine tourists who will move around in swimsuits outside the beaches.
