Lidovky.cz: What did you think when you heard that the killer David K. was a patient of a psychiatrist, but did not suffer from a mental illness, which was preliminarily confirmed by a psychological assessment?
The fact is, when I was asked after the college shooting what I thought of the perpetrator, I said I believed the person probably didn’t suffer from a mental illness or disorder. In that case, he wouldn’t get into the philosophy faculty and wouldn’t get a license to own a firearm. It would be a different matter if the disease or disorder broke out or developed later.

However, after the publication of various facts, I doubt David K.’s mental health. However, not every person who sees a psychiatrist has to suffer from a mental illness or disorder. I would like to emphasize that disease and disorder are technical terms that are defined by a doctor by diagnosing a patient. You can go to a psychiatrist, for example, because you suffer from insomnia due to being overworked at work, but this does not yet have to be a disease, a disorder. Such a condition can only become a disorder or disease when it reaches a certain intensity.

Lidovky.cz: Who diagnoses the patient?
In our case, the diagnosis is generally made by a doctor. It does not belong to a psychologist. It therefore strikes me that the fact that the perpetrator from the Faculty of Philosophy did not suffer from a disorder was established by a forensic psychologist.

Lidovky.cz: It is hard to understand that mass murder, including children, is committed by a mentally healthy person. What will happen to him that he reaches for such unprecedented violence?
