The shame of Pilsen goes to the ground. The building, which probably every Pilsen resident knows under the name Sklenéné peklo, was built without a building permit. The unfinished building fell into disrepair and decay for many years. On Tuesday, May 7, D-Day came – demolition.

The city of Pilsen has an agreement with the investors, is ready to sell the land to developers the moment they demolish the torso of the former car showroom. The agreement took place in 2022 under the former city management. Specifically, we wrote HERE.

The developer then asked the current city management a year ago to postpone some partial dates. For example, the deadlines for submitting applications for the issuance of a building permit or a decision on demolition have been moved forward. At the same time, however, the developer promised to vacate the building and undertook to carry out the demolition by September 2024 at the latest.

Clearing and preparatory work for the demolition of the building began already in June last year. “There was a lot of rock, rubble, iron… well, let me tell you, there was a terrible stench.” one of the clearing workers described to QAP. Report and photos from inside the building can be found HERE.

Excavators could be seen in the area since April, minor demolition work was taking place there. We wrote in detail HERE.

On Tuesday, May 7, D-Day came – demolition. Work started at 9:45.

Based on the completion of the demolition deadline, the city of Pilsen is then to transfer the land. However, as the current mayor of Pilsen admitted some time ago, the price of the land will probably increase. “The council will discuss the property relations of Carimex. Probably in the June or September council meeting, I can declare for the city that we have a new expert review report ready at this time. The price for selling the land is higher, I won’t say by how much, but it is higher,” stated Roman Zarycký.

The new owners want to completely revitalize the location and instead of the so-called Glass Hell, build commercial and administrative Center Úslavaapartment buildings are also to be built here.

The editor of QAP was at the place where the demolition began – you can find the report HERE.
