Another trolleybus line will be added in Prague

--

Selected connections of the bus line currently go to Jinonic and Mala Ohrad, however, due to the intensity of traffic, only the hilly section Na Knížecí – U Waltrovky will be electrified.

Vehicles overcome a long and drawn-out climb from Smíchov towards Malvazinky with an average gradient of up to seven percent. The rest of the route to Waltrovka also rises and falls significantly. For this reason, the share of the section with trolley lines will be approximately 80 percent.

The event is part of the project to electrify bus lines in the Left Bank part of Prague, in addition to line 137, trolleybuses will also appear in place of lines 131, 176 and 191 in the future.

As part of the new line between Na Knížecí and U Waltrovky, approximately 4,440 meters of trolley line will be created between the Santoška and U Waltrovky stops. It will be necessary to install 104 traction masts, while the same rule applies as for previous electrification constructions.

There will not be a forest of new masts just for trolleybuses, the transport company will use combined masts that will serve both for traction lines and for street lighting. In addition, it will be necessary to lay approximately two kilometers of cables and build a new transformer station in Peroutková street.

The new trolleybus line will run in Prague 5.

“If there are no major complications, we expect the construction of the infrastructure to begin in the fall of this year,” said Jan Šurovský, technical director of the transport company – Surface.

The line will then be served by battery trolleybuses of standard length, i.e. twelve meters. Last October, the city’s largest company put out a public contract for the supplier of up to 70 vehicles of this type, and now the signing of the contract with the winner is being prepared.

The investment project also includes the construction of seven charging stations in the Na Knížecí bus terminal and up to 37 outdoor charging stations in the Řepy garage, which will follow on from the infrastructure built as part of the electrification project of bus 119, now trolleybus 59, which transports passengers between Veleslavín and Ruzyne Airport.

“Given that the electrification project of line 137 will be implemented in close coordination with the Humanization of Peroutkova Street event of the Technical Administration of Communications, people will not only expect modern, ecological and quiet battery trolleybuses, but also a completely new and better public space,” added Šurovský.

Trolleybus line number 58 also runs along the route Palmovka–Letňany–Čakovice–Miškovice in the north of the city.
