Theater Flora knocks on the door. Seven dozen program events will be covered by the year’s motto Freedom

--

Renowned domestic and foreign theater personalities are starting to come to Olomouc – on Thursday, May 9, one of the largest Central European festivals starts here. Divadelní Flora will invite you to seven dozen events covered by the year’s motto Freedom, which will run until Monday, May 20.

The organizing association Flora Theater Festival invites to award-winning drama and dance productions, performances, stand-up, opera, discussions, concerts and a number of other accompanying activities that connect the motto Freedom. Flora has a long-standing reputation as a thematically profiled show, whose annual dramaturgy is characterized by a clearly articulated leitmotif. This year’s one resonates with all the productions of the main program, which accentuate it in many ways. “Freedom is a basic human need, an implicit condition for a dignified existence and authentic creation. However, many people cannot live as they would like, freely create and fulfill their desires. We believe that the artistic reflection of the burning phenomena of the present, to which the theater naturally reacts, festival will address the audience and also invite them to an active discussion with those we have invited to Olomouc this year,” the director of Divadelní Flora, Petr Nerušil, invites to the performance itself a lot of festival discussions and informal meetings with artists.

After the painter Adéla Janská from Olomouc, whose female portraits last year communicated with the motto Otherness, the festival of the sides of the presentation addressed another representative of the local art scene – Jiří Sedlák. “Regarding the annual theme of Divadelní Flory, for me Jiří was the ideal adept for collaboration on current visuals. His expressive, even abstract position corresponds suggestively with the motto Freedom. Just like last year, there is an intersection of two media this time – he enters digital graphic design with his analog expressive means of a painter. Jiří spontaneously imprinted an urgent imperative on the austere template with factual data,” comments graphic artist Radim Mésíc on the idea of the 27th edition of Divadelní Flora, whose colorful statement enlivened the exteriors of the university town.

Lachende Bestien will bring a provocative adaptation of Büchner’s Vojck to Flora. The wild comedy directed by Michal Hába is dominated by the brilliant Mark Kristián Hochman.

The exciting adaptation of Büchner’s Vojck, which will be brought to Flora by the Lachende Bestien troupe, is dominated by the great Mark Kristián Hochman. Among the dramatic highlights of the show will be exciting court drama At first sight of Prague’s Švandov Theatre, which was nominated for Production of the Year by the Czech theater critics. Marie Štípková, excelling in the role of lawyer Tessa, received a narrow nomination for the best female performance in the prestigious poll,” points out the audience-attractive titles of this year’s Divadelní Flory its spokesperson Daniela Hekelová.

The festival will be kicked off by two world premieres of Olomouc provenance – the composed dance evening Freedom in Motion by the Moravian Theater Ballet Ensemble (choreography by WHITEflag day Italian Roberta Ferrara and Inventing Freedom by Štěpán Pechar), which will be hosted by the recently opened Central on Thursday, May 9, and the drama Tragédi by the Cucky Theater and Slovak director Šimon Spišák a day later. Right after them, the MDO stage will belong to the international ensemble Schauspielhaus Bochum, whose production New Life directed by Christopher Rüping will ceremonially open the 27th Theater Flora.

During twelve days full of theatrical and musical experiences, outstanding directors and inspiring directors will present themselves at Flora together with top protagonists from eleven countries.
