“We are also digitizing and electronicizing the area of sickness benefits… We will handle the agenda fully electronically. We are also setting up so that other groups of people, if they pay adequate sickness insurance premiums, are also entitled to benefits. We are expanding and improving the protection of these people,” said Labor Minister Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL).

According to the amendment, from next year, contract holders, self-employed persons (OSVČ) or people with small-scale employment should have nursing allowance. But they would have to pay at least the previous three months of sick leave.

For self-employed persons, even a shorter period would be sufficient, if they were previously employed and applied to pay contributions within eight days after leaving work.

According to the documents for the law, approximately 2.5 percent of cases could increase after the introduction of the nursing home allowance for the self-employed and contractors. Expenditures could rise by about 29 million crowns annually.

Maternity and paternity electronically

E-payments for sick leave have been introduced in the Czech Republic since 2020. According to the amendment, other sickness benefits should also start to be processed electronically from next year, namely maternity, regular and long-term care benefits, compensatory allowance during pregnancy and maternity and paternity.

If the doctor decides on maternity or nursing pay, he sends a confirmation to the social administration. Similarly, hygienists should proceed with infirmary fees when ordering quarantine or closing schools and kindergartens.

Employers who report paternity or other events of their employees should also get involved. The self-employed will then apply to the social security administration electronically themselves through the portal of the Czech Social Security Administration.
