Police officers from Luhačovice are dealing with fraud on the internet bazaar portal. An unknown perpetrator is suspected of fraud, who offered a mini-excavator for purchase on the Internet, collected the payment, but did not deliver the goods.
A forty-nine-year-old man from the village near Luhačovice wanted to buy a mini digger, so he looked on various bazaar portals to see who was offering it. He found just such an ad, so he called the seller, asked him all the details and decided to buy the mini excavator. The seller explained to him that he really has many interested parties and therefore it is necessary to pay the full price in advance to his bank account. He sent an invoice to the interested party by email and he paid the required 78,500 crowns. The seller promised to send the machine by company transport after receiving the money.
After sending the payment, the man began to have doubts and called the company listed on the invoice as the seller. The company explained to him that although they sell excavators, they are of a different brand and that he is not the first to call about the ad. They confirmed to him that the man named on the invoice does not work for this company and that someone misused their company’s name.
The buyer went to the bank in an attempt to block the payment, but was unable to do so, so he immediately filed a criminal complaint with the police.
Police officers from Luhačovice have initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of committing the crime of fraud, for which the perpetrator faces up to two years in prison.
