In exactly one month, the elections to the European Parliament will begin in the Czech Republic. Polls will open on Friday, June 7 at 2 p.m. While people can choose whether or not to vote, cities and municipalities must prepare everything necessary and also set up election commissions. For example, in the Pilsen region, this means finding more than 5,000 people.

The first Pilsen district needs at least 280 members for the commissions. “We start our search early, first reaching out to those who have worked for us in previous elections. Some will contact themselves after the elections have been announced,” says Jana Slavíková, who is in charge of the electoral agenda within the district. All candidate parties, movements and groups can also nominate members to the electoral commission. In addition to one committee member, it can also be one substitute. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, May 8 at 4 p.m.

“Almost 50 other people will be involved from our town hall who will act as recorders. Others will be part of the election staff,” says Miroslava Vejvodová, spokeswoman for the first district.

Polling stations for the European Parliament elections will open for voters on Friday, June 7 (available from 2 to 10 p.m.) and Saturday, June 8 (available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
