Those interested in the history of the Prague metro can today take a ride on line C in historical sets. Trains will run between Kačerova and Florenc stations, originally Sokolovská, until four in the afternoon. Some sets will go to the final station in Letňany. The event was prepared by the company for the 50th anniversary of the metro being put into operation on May 9, 1974. In the sets, the normal fare tariff applies.

“Following the model of the first festive ride in 1974, a historic three-car set will depart from Kačerov to Florenc at 9:19 a.m. This is the same set that started traveling on the Prague underground at that time. Passengers can also look forward to riding the historic five-car set 81-71, the so-called black mushroom, or the reconstructed set 81-71M.” said the deputy mayor Zdenek Hrib (Pirates).

On Thursday, people will be able to come to the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning in Vyšehradská Street to watch films and listen to lectures about the history and present of the Prague Metro. They will have the opportunity from one in the afternoon to nine in the evening.

At metro station C Kačerov, interested parties can view the traveling exhibition on the history of the metro, which started in April in the Střešovice train station and will last until mid-August. On May 18, the organizers will move twenty panels with photos and information from Kačerov to Jungmann Square. For children and adults, the company has prepared a geolocation game called Metro 50. It will guide players through all 61 metro stations, participants will have to answer a competition question in each one.

The ceremonial opening of the metro in Prague took place on May 9, 1974, and line C between Kačerov and Sokolovská opened for passengers a day later. In November 1980, the original nine stations were extended by four stations to the Jižní Město housing estate, where Háje (originally Kosmonautů) still stands today. Four years later, Vltavská and Holešovice Stations (originally Fučíkova) were added. Another continuation of the line in the north of Prague was opened in June 2004 in the section from Nádraží Holešovice to Ládví and in May 2008 from Ládví to Letňany.
