The twisted metal of Lord Spikeheart

Heavy beats and torn vocals of the Kenyan singer and producer could already be heard by the Czech audience in his previous project Duma. The brutal set at Bike Jesus was among the best concerts of 2021 according to Full Moon’s ranking. Spikeheart will follow up with his solo album on May 9 at the Underdogs’ club. The Adept’s new record combines extreme sonic experiments, hard trance and techno, twisted metal and harsh rap that spills over into a hellish roar in Spikeheart’s native Kikuyu and English. He invited a wide range of musicians to record, from Backxwash or Brodinski to Safety Trance.

Nu Jazz and their wild improvisations

The six-member New York collective consisting of musicians performing in bands such as Deli Girls (Dan Orlowski) or Murderpact combines jazz improvisations, but also modular synthesizers and New York hardcore in their live sets. On May 23, Nu Jazz will present itself to the Czech audience for the first time with a concert that combines punk wildness and musicality, which each of the musicians brings from years of experience in the New York musical underground. Support will be provided by Mezi patry klid – a duo awarded with the Vinyl prize, which interweaves dubstep with trap beats and folk samples and released its debut album in April.

Chronicles and songwriting of Claire Rousay

Ambient music as a personal diary and testimony of small everyday things that otherwise get lost in the passage of time. Two days after Nu Jazz, the American musician Claire Rousay will perform in Vila Štvanice with her new album Sentiment. Created in various private places, from bedrooms to lonely hotel rooms, it reflects feelings of nostalgia, sentimentality, but also reflects on the use of guilt or sexuality. Modified vocals return on it, which Rousay complements with meditative guitar passages in addition to snippets of personal conversations and recordings of the environment. “I want to belong to the worlds and communities of people I respect. Like someone who uses a Fender guitar or dresses like Kurt Cobain. Emulate your heroes,” says Rousay about the new record, revealing another layer of his thoughtful ambient with an overlap into hyperpop and songwriting. Together with her, Adriána Vančová aka Timmi will present herself.

Waiting for Transform with YHWH Nailgun and the eighth Rustle

The end of May and the beginning of April will be long nights with DJ sets. As part of the warm-up of the Transforma festival, the American post-punk band YHWH Nailgun will perform at the Bike Jesus club on May 24, whose raw energy will be complemented by Czech DJs. Directly at the Tábor festival, there will be the premiere performance of Kabeaushé and a mixture of pop melodies and deconstructed electronic glitches.

On the first of June, the eighth club night Šelest will take place on board Altenburg 1964, full of eclectic rhythms from dance floors around the world. There will be a live set by DJ Haram from the Hyperdub label – the Brooklyn-based producer, also known from the duo 700 Bliss, which she forms together with Moor Mother, will bring a new record full of heavy beats and tuned analog sound to Prague. Pekodjinn will present himself with his radical fusion of North African rhythms, and from the African incubator of original electronica Nyege Nyege, DJ K will come with his avant-garde baile funk.
