According to him, the man wanted to evaluate savings by investing in cryptocurrency. After coming across a tempting advertisement on the Internet in February promising an interesting appreciation of the deposit, he showed interest.

“He was soon contacted by an employee of the investment company. The broker told the man that he would take care of his investment account. The interested party started cautiously and invested 250 euros,” stated the spokesperson.

The deposit appreciated within a month, and the broker presented the senior with other, more profitable investments, for example in the ETH (Ethereum) cryptocurrency. “When the man saw that the deposit was appreciating, he sent more money. He gradually invested one and a half million crowns,” said Hejtman.

The problem for the senior citizen arose when he decided to transfer the deposit with profit to his bank account.

“To this, the broker replied that the money would be transferred to him after the establishment of another electronic wallet, in which he must deposit a cyber currency of at least eight ETH,” the spokesperson noted.

According to the instructions, the senior sent 750 thousand crowns to buy currency. However, the money still did not come to him, and the broker began to make excuses that there was a problem with the account.

“He convinced the man that sending more funds would solve the problem. However, the interested party already began to suspect that it was a fraud, and instead of sending additional funds, he turned to the police,” Hejtman pointed out.

Police officers have initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of committing the crime of fraud, for which the perpetrator faces a prison sentence of two to eight years.

“If you decide to value money, for example by depositing in cyber currency, always contact only trusted and established financial companies. Be very wary of tempting advertisements from unknown organizations. Be aware that investing in cyber currency is not without risk,” added the police spokesperson at the end of the advice.
