Tourism in the Moravian-Silesian Region in the first quarter of 2024: the total number of guests in mass accommodation establishments in the Moravian-Silesian Region increased by 2.8% to 202.8 thousand trips

In the first quarter of 2024, the total number of guests in mass accommodation establishments in the Moravian-Silesian region increased by 2.8% to 202.8 thousand guests. The number of overnight stays reached 561 thousand nights and the average year increased by 3.0%. The number of guests on Thursday nights in comparison with the same period of the previous year was shown both in the case of domestic and foreign clientele.

In the first quarter of 2024, there were 202,786 guests in collective accommodation establishments in the Moravian-Silesian region, of which 19.3% (39,059 guests) were from abroad. The total number of guests was thus 5,463 people (by 2.8%) less than in the same period of the previous year. The number of domestic clients increased by 0.8% year-on-year, while foreigners stayed by 12.0% more. According to the Moravian-Silesian region, the number of guests in accommodation establishments was 4.9% of the total, the number of guests at home by the region was 7.5%, and 2.0% for foreign guests.

In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of mass accommodation establishments in the 1st quarter of this year increased by a quarter in all regions of the Czech Republic. The only exception was the Pardubice region, where the unemployment rate fell by 1.6%. The most visited region was Prague with 1.57 million guests, which also showed the highest interannual number of accommodation tourists (by 16.9%). An increase in unemployment by more than a tenth was found in Vysoin (by 15.0%), in the South Region (by 14.2%) and in the Karlovy Vary region (by 10.9%).

The number of foreign nationals in the first quarter of 2024 was significantly higher (by 12.0%) than in the first months of 2023, but compared to 2019, it was equal to approx. 98.8%. The largest number of foreign guests (25.6%) came to the Moravian-Silesian region from Slovakia in the first quarter of 2024. 9,982 were accommodated in the monitored establishments, which was 7.7% more than last year. The second largest group consisted of 8,151 immigrants from Poland (19.9% ​​growth). Visitors from Germany (4,529 guests) took third place, their number increased by 23.4%. According to guests from the mentioned countries, about 58% of all foreign clients in the region accounted for.

The number of overnight guests in mass accommodation facilities in the Moravian-Silesian region in the first quarter of 2024 reached almost 561 thousand nights and was 3.0% less than in the same period last year. Both domestic guests (increase by 1.0%) and foreign clients (increase by 15.4%) contributed to this interannual increase in the total number of hotels.

Penocovn increased in 9 regions, the most in Vysoin (by 19.7%) and in Prague (by 18.4%). On the contrary, in the five regions of Liberec, Plzeň, Pardubice, Steck and Olomouc, the number of overnight guests in mass accommodation facilities has decreased over time. The reason for this was that the client’s house was not stable. Similar to the case of guests, the highest demand for accommodation in the first quarter of 2024 was in the capital city of Prague (there are 3.5 million bed and breakfasts), while over a million nights were spent by tourists in the Krlovroč region and the Karlovy Vary region. Residents spent the most nights in the Krlovehradecky region (923 thousand), non-residents spent the most nights in Prague (2.88 million).

The average number of bed and breakfasts (2.8 nights per guest) and the Moravian-Silesian Region ranked 5th in the imaginary regional ranking. The first place is taken by the Karlovy Vary region of Lage with 3.7 nights, followed by the Krlovroč region with an average of 3.6 nights. The average number of overnight stays of domestic guests in the Moravian-Silesian region was you (2.9 nights) and not foreign guests (2.3 nights).

Thus, the accommodation facility in the Moravian-Silesian region recorded better results than a year ago. In the first quarter of 2024, a total of 6.8 thousand guests stayed in Lznice, of which 2.2% were from abroad. Thus, compared to the same period in 2023, the total number of guests from Latvia increased by 7.4%, domestic clients arrived by 7.7% more, and international arrivals decreased by 5.1%. In total, the number of overnight stays in Lászka establishments in the region reached 111.1 thousand nights, which was 3.7% more than in the previous year. Residents spent 4.7% more nights in Lznice, while non-residents spent 24.2% more nights. The average length of stay in the Moravian-Silesian spa was 16.4 nights.
