Police spokeswoman Kateřina Kubzová informed about the incident that happened on Wednesday. She said her colleagues were checking vehicles parked under the bridge when they noticed a man lying on his back on the rubber panels placed in the track.

As soon as the police registered his behavior, they immediately ran to him, by which time the train could already be heard coming. When they reached the track, the train was only about ten meters from the lying man.

“One of the policemen grabbed him by his clothes and pulled him off the track, where he and the other colleague kept him at a safe distance until the train set passed,” said Kubzová.

The law enforcement officers subsequently secured the 36-year-old man. A breath test for the presence of alcohol on him showed over two per thousand.

“The paramedics who were called decided to place him at the anti-alcohol detention center for sobering up and a subsequent medical examination,” noted Kublová.

“The police officers, who showed courage and bravery without hesitation in this case, managed to save one human life that evening at the cost of their own,” the spokeswoman added.
