Delta Air Lines’ line between Prague and New York is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year.

As of today, the Czech Republic once again has a direct air connection with the USA. American airline Delta Air Lines has resumed flights between JFK Airport in New York and Prague after a winter break. The regular line will be in operation daily until October 6. In addition, this year it celebrates its fifteen-year anniversary.

On the connection from New York to Prague and back, Delta will, as traditionally, deploy Boeing 767-300ERs in two classes with a total capacity of 217 passengers. The first flight was operated by a 34-year-old machine with registration N172DN.

“I am pleased that Delta Air Lines has been offering direct connections from Prague to New York for 15 years. During the period of its operation in Prague, the American carrier already made 5,900 flights and carried 1,119,000 passengers. said the head of Prague Airport, Jiří Pos.

An important market

According to Pose, the United States represents a very important market for Prague Airport, where it handled more than half a million passengers last year, including connecting flights.

“In the first quarter of this year, we also saw growth of 17 percent in this segment,” added Pos.

He wrote on the X Pos social network that a direct connection with the USA is crucial for the Prague airport. He believes in a further increase in capacity on lines to Prague from next year.

A popular long-haul destination

Before the outbreak of the pandemic, more than 70,000 passengers flew between Prague and New York every year, according to data from the Prague airport. New York has long been one of the most popular long-distance destinations in the Czech Republic.

Return tickets for holiday dates currently cost more than 20,000 crowns, so there is obviously still a lot of interest in the connection. However, at the end of August and during September, a seven-day trip can be planned for 13,000 crowns.
