Firefighters have been continuing to extinguish the burning forest near Žehrovo in Mladoboleslavsk since Friday morning. In the difficult-to-access terrain, where there are also rocks, a helicopter with a bambivac helps them put out the fire. The intervention will last all day. The fire started on an area of approximately one hectare on Thursday evening. 55 firefighters and 23 pieces of equipment are now working at the scene, said Jan Sýkora, spokesman for the Central Bohemian Fire Department.
The fire was approximately 100 by 100 meters on Thursday, and did not spread significantly overnight. “The visible surface is more or less the same, there is no flaming burning, but the grabanka burns through,” said Sýkora. It will also be difficult to find the source of the fire, and the surveillance of the place, in which volunteer firefighters will also be involved, may take several days.
On Thursday evening, six units of firefighters arrived at the forest fire, and a police helicopter arrived with a bag of water. Firefighters declared the second level of fire alarm out of four due to the larger number of responding units. Fire fighting progressed slowly due to difficult terrain and darkness, access roads were blocked by fallen trees.
