The traffic accident happened around 7:30 in the evening in Ostrava street Československá armády.
“From the preliminary information, it follows that the minor girl should have suddenly entered the road from the sidewalk, where a driver with a Volvo car was driving in the direction from Kasalický Street to Tvrdého Street. The girl was hit by a car, she suffered serious injuries, to which she later succumbed in hospital,” said police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková.
“The girl, less than three years old, was unconscious and lifeless at the time the rescuers arrived. The attending doctor found serious injuries to the chest and abdomen, and further injuries could not be ruled out,” explained emergency service spokesman Lukáš Humpl.
The crews immediately started providing pre-hospital emergency care – they secured the airway and artificial lung ventilation, access to the bone marrow and started the administration of drugs.
However, despite all efforts, the child’s condition rapidly worsened until circulatory failure occurred.
“The initiated resuscitation was temporarily successful and it was possible to restore cardiac function. However, the arrest occurred again during the transport and the teams had to perform CPR again. The patient was handed over to the emergency medical staff of the Ostrava General Hospital in a critical condition,” added Humpl.
In order to determine the cause of the accident, the police are appealing for any witnesses.
“At the time of the traffic accident, trolleybus number 104 was passing through the place, whose passengers could contribute to clarifying the circumstances of the accident with their testimony. We also ask the drivers of vehicles who passed by the place, and if their vehicle has an on-board camera, to contact the emergency line 158,” said Michalíková.
