Electricity and natural gas prices in the European Union decreased year-on-year in the second half of last year. However, it does not apply universally and, for example, in our country, on the contrary, electricity has gone up.
The statistical office Eurostat has just published a report that analyzes energy prices across the countries of the European Union for the second half of last year. As can be seen from the office’s analysis, prices began to increase significantly even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, after which they temporarily recorded a jump in the summer of 2022.

During the second half of last year, however, the average price of electricity for households in the EU fell to around 717 crowns per 100 kilowatt hours (kWh) from 740 crowns per 100 kWh in the first half of the year. However, it was still slightly higher compared to the second half of 2022, when it amounted to 714 crowns per 100 kWh.
The average price of gas for households in EU countries fell to around 285 crowns per 100 kWh in the second half of last year, while it was 299 crowns per 100 kWh in the first half and 286 crowns per 100 kWh in the second half of 2022.
Altogether, electricity prices for households in the second half of last year fell year-on-year in thirteen EU countries, while they increased in the remaining fourteen, including the Czech Republic. The biggest price increase in local currency was recorded in the Netherlands, where electricity became more expensive by 86 percent. Right behind him is the Czech Republic with 83 percent.
