According to information from the police presidium, the situation required a significant deployment of personnel. Immediately after the event, which took place on December 21, 12 psychologists and crisis intervention workers from the regional headquarters of the Prague police were on the scene.
During the night, a further 18 people were involved in informing the bereaved and during the first week the number increased to more than 40 police personnel. During the same period, almost another 200 experts from the Integrated Rescue System (IZS) and its partner organizations provided psychosocial assistance.
According to the police presidium, this event significantly affected the psyche of a wide range of people, whose total number is estimated at 9,000. The support in the medium-term phase is still ongoing. In addition, this event also affected other affected communities, such as the municipality of Klánovice, other universities and medical facilities.
Police say there have been many incidents of threats of violence by pupils and students at various high schools and universities, as well as other citizens threatening violence at health facilities. This event thus opened several societal issues, especially in the areas of security, education and healthcare.
The attack in the main building of the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague took place on December 21, 2023. A student of this faculty shot 13 people and one person later died in hospital. Another 25 people were injured. The attacker eventually shot himself. Shortly before the massacre at the FF UK, he shot his father in the village of Hostouň and approximately a week before, he killed a random man and a child in Klánovický les on the outskirts of Prague.
