The European Union summit in Prague will mean unusual traffic on Ruzyna, passengers must expect delays.

A week of very interesting traffic at Václav Havel Airport begins. Today, a Boeing 747-8 arrived in the Czech Republic for the first time as a business jet for the Emir of Qatar. During tomorrow and Thursday in Prague, due to the informal summit of the European Union at Prague Castle, a number of other government specials will appear at Ruzyna.

In terms of its size, it is the largest bizjet in the world. Its operator is the Qatari state company Qatar Amiri Flights. The 12-year-old aircraft, registration A7-HHE, landed in Prague after 5 p.m. On board was Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Sani, who is on a state visit to the Czech Republic until October 7. The highest representative of Qatar is coming to the Czech Republic for the first time. An Airbus A340 from the Qatari government squadron already landed in Prague yesterday. More planes from Qatar are scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

Interest in diplomatic relations with Qatar increased in Europe after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and in connection with the related energy crisis. The Middle Eastern country is the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and has the third largest reserves of both oil and natural gas in the world.

Last week, the Czech government approved an intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation with Qatar. According to the Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Síkela (for STAN), it should be signed during the emir’s visit.

Due to the summit of the leaders of the European Union, passengers at the Ruzyne airport have to expect some flight delays. 49 state delegations should arrive at the Prague airport. Complications can also occur on the approach roads to the airport.
