Time change at Easter. When and where will we move the hands?

--

Meteorologists promise that the highest temperatures may attack summer values at Easter. This is due to the fact that summer time will start on Sunday. The third of the four free days will be an hour shorter.

The time change will take place on the last Sunday of March, which this year fell on the last day of March. At night, the big hand jumps at 2:00 straight to 3:00, making the day one hour shorter.

The history of time change in our country is fundamentally connected with both world wars. Daylight saving time was first introduced in 1916, then still in Austria-Hungary, and was applied until the final year of the war in 1918.

It then returned only during the Second World War, when it was in effect in the Protectorate continuously for more than two and a half years from April 1940. It then alternated with Standard Time until 1949.

Daylight saving time definitely took hold in our country in 1979, when the night from Saturday to Sunday during the last weekend of March also became fixed as a moment of change. Since 1996, in accordance with the entire EU, it has been in place until October, in the Czech Republic until then it ended in September.
