The electrification of the vehicle fleet of major services such as FedEx and UPS is due to US President Joe Biden. The long-term aim is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, which is a contribution to ongoing global warming, according to the Reuters agency. ad entrepreneurial companies that try to manufacture electrical supplies, but they will run out of pensions and gradually end their business.

The question is how many of these companies will be driving here in five to ten years, worries Luke Wake, vice president of UPS services, who is in charge of fleet management at the company.

Subsidies help with the insurance of electrical supplies in a number of American states. This is also the case in California, where companies could receive special vouchers for this element for a relatively long time. Without subsidies, the price of an electric supply is about twice as much as a classic one with an internal combustion engine. On average, it currently works out to about 260 thousand US dollars, which is about 6 million crowns.

A few weeks ago, however, California suspended the program of these vouchers for large companies, which the shipping companies did not like. For one delivery, companies such as UPS or FedEx asked for a subsidy of between 60 and 85 thousand US dollars, which is approximately 1.4 and 2 million crowns in total.

UPS pechz on electric pipes at eight years old

UPS has been testing and buying electric cars for several years. It has more than 150,000 delivery vehicles worldwide and is traditionally one of the most demanding companies in this sector. In 2016, its management decided to gradually renew its fleet and switch to vans with self-propelled drives. In addition to electric vehicles, the company also relies on renewable natural gas (RNG).

The company’s strategy, however, mainly involves the purchase of larger electric cars, which, however, are not on the market for a long time. That is why it invested in the British company Arrival a few years ago and ordered a total of 10,000 new electric appliances. But the British company lost two pensions, not enough to sell UPS a single vehicle.

Even though UPS failed to make a purchase on the American market, it managed to ensure the sustainability of roughly a third of its fleet. According to the company, this will even increase to 40 percent by 2025. However, the company’s strategy is still based on RNG, which, however, is criticized by some experts and, from their point of view, it is not an environmentally friendly fuel, among other things, due to the risk of methane depletion.

The availability of cars with this capacity is now limited, FedEx confirmed in its official statement. However, the management of this company still believes that it will be possible to fully electrify its vehicle fleet by 2030, and the current calls and thanks to help from the USA will be successful. At the same time, he admits that it will depend on the capacity.
